One thing is certain when doing a blog about the current presidential administration from a liberal perspective. There will never be a shortage of material. Consider the weirdness within the past week or so.
Kellyanne Conway, a senior advisor to He Who Must Not Be Named (HWMNBN), told MSNBC’s Chris Matthews about a “Bowling Green massacre”. There was no such event. Conway is the genius (insert a gallon of dripping sarcasm on that term) who coined the phrase “alternative facts”. It’s obvious that Conway doesn’t understand that alternative facts are falsehoods because she is too busy spreading falsehoods and desperately trying to convince us that those lies are the unvarnished truth.
HWMNBN accused former President Obama of wiretapping HWMNBN Tower during the 2016 campaign. There is apparently not a shred of credible evidence to back up this pathetically ludicrous claim. He claimed to have read about it on Breitbart News. He considers all news outlets to be enemies of the people and spreaders of fake news. The two he considers legitimate are Fox News and Breitbart. The former is arguably the most biased news source, with a very conservative slant and not a stranger to promoting fake news. Breitbart is even more far right, notoriously spreading numerous lies and nut job conspiracy theories.
During the 2016 campaign, HWMNBN ripped Obama for taking weekend vacations and said he would not do so. He has done 4 such trips to Florida as of last weekend. At the same time in Obama’s first term, he had taken 3. Estimates based on figures from the Government Accounting Office are that each trip to Florida by HWMNBN will cost taxpayers $3 million, with the flight on Air Force One costing $200,000 per hour. At that rate, HWMNBN will spend $156 million a year just on trips to Florida. That cost estimate would surpass the money spent by the Obamas for all their vacations combined. Should he remain in the White House for 4 years (there’s a truly sickening thought), that cost would rise to over half a billion dollars – a total of $624 million by conservative estimates. This from a hypocrite who claimed that he would pay for his own vacation trips.
HWMNBN signed a measure that killed a regulation enacted by the Obama administration to tighten gun background checks. The rule required the Social Security Administration to send over the names of people who receive government checks for being mentally disabled and others who have been deemed unable to handle their own financial affairs to the FBI office that runs the national background check database. This is a group of about 75,000 people. He sees no problem with people with mental illnesses acquiring guns legally. Personally, I think he seems to have some mental illness issues himself. Maybe he did that so he can purchase a few dozen weapons for himself. The National Rifle Association says the rule curtails the Second Amendment rights of these people and persuaded GOP leadership to use the Congressional Review Act. No surprise there, considering that the NRA leadership seems to want all Americans to have as many guns as they can afford.
FBI director James Comey asked the Dept of Justice to publicly reject Trump’s wiretap claims because the claims are untrue and suggest the FBI broke the law. I guess that indicates that Comey is one of those who do not believe every piece of drivel that comes from Breitbart and Fox News.
Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson referred to slaves trafficked across the Atlantic to the United States as “immigrants.” Carson’s amazingly ignorant comments were delivered as he outlined his vision for a housing policy that would play no favorites when it comes to public assistance, The Washington Post reported. In describing America as that “land of dreams and opportunity,” Carson made the parallel between slaves and immigrants. “There were other immigrants who came here in the bottom of slave ships, worked even longer, even harder for less,” Carson said. “But they, too, had a dream that one day their sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, great-grandsons, great-granddaughters, might pursue prosperity and happiness in this land.” Aren’t you glad you didn’t vote for this nitwit? Is he so ignorant that he doesn’t realize that slaves brought from Africa were taken against their will?
As if that weren’t enough for one week, we incredulously heard Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt say he does not believe carbon dioxide is a primary contributor to global warming.
"I think that measuring with precision human activity on the climate is something very challenging to do and there's tremendous disagreement about the degree of impact, so no, I would not agree that it's a primary contributor to the global warming that we see," he told CNBC. "But we don't know that yet ... We need to continue the debate and continue the review and the analysis," he added.
Pruitt's view is at odds with the opinion of NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Of course, they’re only scientists and not members of Fox News or Breitbart. "The planet's average surface temperature has risen about 2.0 degrees Fahrenheit (1.1 degrees Celsius) since the late 19th century, a change driven largely by increased carbon dioxide and other human-made emissions into the atmosphere," NASA and NOAA said in January.
Pruitt previously served as Oklahoma attorney general, where he rose to prominence as a leader in coordinated efforts to challenge Barack Obama's regulatory agenda. He sued or took part in legal actions against the EPA 14 times. Democrats and environmentalists opposed Pruitt's nomination to lead the EPA due to his close relationship with fossil fuel companies and his history of casting doubt on climate change. Conservatives and the energy industry have cheered his efforts.
Pray for impeachment of HWMNBN and the resignation of Mike Pence. Maybe we can get Hunter Pence to take Mike’s place, at least during the baseball off-season.
